Q: What's the most important "de-icing" action you can take to insure the unobstructed airflow over the wings of your team?
A great deal of effort and technology is used to keep ice from forming on the wings of planes. Too much ice and the lift those wings provide is severely compromised. No quickly moving air over the wing, no lift. No lift, no flight.
Leaders provide lift for their teams. Many things reduce the amount of lift we can provide ourselves and others. These include a lack of attentiveness to critical needs and issues, being easily and emotionally triggered, or an avoidance of painfully honest and needed conversations. Each event slowly and invisibly builds ice on our wings. This build-up, usually subtle, may be hard to notice but keeps our teams from reaching their true heights. Shedding that ice is needed to give ourselves and our teams a clear and unobstructed airflow.
